ROYAL OAK, MI — Carrie Laurence, school counselor at Royal Oak Middle School, has been named the 2025 Counselor of the Year by the Oakland Counseling Association (OCA).

The prestigious honor is awarded annually to counselors who demonstrate outstanding dedication, leadership, and impact in the field of school counseling.

School officials said Laurence’s compassionate approach, student-centered mindset and commitment to supporting students' emotional and academic well-being made her a standout recipient for this year's award.
