Royal Oak Schools Partners With 2 Other Districts For MLK Day March, Events
Royal Oak Schools and two other nearby school districts will honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King on MLK Day.
ROYAL OAK, MI — Royal Oak Schools and two other nearby school districts will honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King on MLK Day.
Berkley and Clawson school districts will join Royal Oak Schools for "A Day On, Not a Day Off," which will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a donation drive at Royal Oak Middle School, located at 709 N. Washington Ave.
From 8:30-9:30 am, guests can enjoy breakfast, make signs for the Freedom Walk and participate in volunteer services and hands-on activities.

Guests will then be invited to a presentation in the Kimball Auditorium at Royal Oak Middle School to watch a student-produced video featuring all three schools focused on what service and community mean to them at 9:30 a.m. Berkley, Clawson and Royal Oak superintendents will also speak at the event.
At 10 a.m., guests can join in on a Freedom Walk through the Royal Oak Middle School
neighborhood. The first 300 guests will receive a commemorative event button. All ages and
members of the community are invited to attend.

After the walk, the public is invited to participate in service projects at Royal Oak Middle School and at community locations, including donation sorting, blanket making for those in need and card making for educators.
The event committee will also be collecting donations to support the following groups:
- Redford Brightmoor Initiative
- Cass Community Social Services
- Judson Center
- Royal Oak First United Methodist Church
- Royal Oak Schools Teen Clean Closet
Donations items requested, or donate through the Amazon Wish List.
● Food items: Canned goods, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, boxed food items,
individually wrapped lunchbox items, baby food, formula
● Home items: Toilet paper, dish soap, paper towels, laundry detergent, surface cleaner,
sponges, batteries, bath towels, kitchen towels
● Toiletries: Shampoo/conditioner (including the following brands: Shea Moisture, As I
Am, Curls, Aunt Jackie's), deodorant, shaving cream, feminine products, bars of soap,
● Diapers and pull-ups: All sizes, no opened packages
● New children's books: Infant through middle school age
● Clothing: Socks (all sizes), underwear (men and children), winter hats (adult), infant and
children’s clothing (gently used or new)
Items will be collected through 11:30 am and then delivered that day by volunteers.
