Daily Hornet: Wins for Varsity Soccer, Baseball

Here's your Hornets' sports news for May 11.

The Saline varsity soccer team improved to .... with a 4-0 win over Ypsilanti Lincoln Thursday.

Saline dominated from start to finish, giving up just a single shot the entire game. Amanda Price and Hayley Reynolds combined for the shutout.

Kristina Veal scored to draw first blood. Caitlin Ellis scored on a beautiful shot from 35 yards out to make it 2-0. Mackenzie Schumborg scored off a corner kick by Meghan Ulrich. Saline's final goal came from Alli Cope, who also finished from inside the box.

Saline is 8-5-2 overall in 6-2 in the SEC. The Hornets play at Troy Athens Saturday at 1 p.m. Theye are home May 15 to Monroe and May 17 to Huron before finishing the regular season May 22 at Pioneer.

Baseball Team Sweeps at Lincoln

Saline continued to roll in the SEC, sweeping Lincoln 12-2 and 14-0 Thursday.

The Hornets exploded for six runs in the third inning to put the Railsplitters away in the opener. Stefan Hastins went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored. Patrick Price, Justin Goike and Austin Hauck each had two hits for the Hornets.

Brent Vaccaro went the distance, giving up two earned runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.

The Hornets blew out the Railsplitters in the second game, scoring multiple runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings to win in a five-inning game called because of the mercy rule.

Michael Hendrickson pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits while walking one and striking out another. Dan Bennett pitched a scoreless inning in relief, walking one and striking out one.

Austin Hauck went 3-for-3 with a homerun and six RBI. Trent Theisen also went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Andrew White and Justin Goike each had a couple of hits. AJ Korzuck had a single, two runs scored and two RBI.

The Hornets are 9-1 to lead the SEC Red. They are 19-4 overall.
