Mulder's Goal Lifts Hornets over River Rats

Saline's varsity girls won their second straight district title.

Freshman Taylor Mulder scored with 3:33 left in regulation as Saline defeated Huron 1-0 in Saturday's district final at Skyline.

The Hornets penned the River Rats in their own end for all but a few minutes of the game, but were kept at bay by Huron goalie Katie Yeatts.

Saline prevented the game from going to overtime in the final minutes of regulation. Mulder used her head to deflect Brittany Brown's corner kick into the goal to give the Hornets their second consecutive district championship.

Coach Dana Restrick called it one of the biggest victories in the history of the program. She said it was the first time she could remember that Saline advanced further than Pioneer in an MHSAA tournament.

The Hornets return to action Tuesday night in the regional at Saline High School.
