The community line Michigan Avenue to pay homage to fallen American soldiers on Memorial Day.

The Saline area marked Memorial Day Monday with many activities, including the annual Memorial Day parade.

The Grand Marshal of this year's parade was Kurt Schneider, a Saline firefighter and U.S. Marine Corps reservist.

People lined Michigan Avenue from the firehall to the Oakwood Cemetery. The parade features members of the Saline American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans of Washtenaw County. Music was provided by the Saline High School Marching Band, the Saline Middle School Marching Band, and the New Horizons band. Also marching in the parade were local Boy Scouts, Saline Area Girl scouts, the Saline Twirlettes, members of Saline City Council, and people from many other groups.

The parade moved to Oakwood Cemetery, where remarks were made by Schneider and Saline Mayor Gretchen Driskell. Following the memorial ceremony, many crossed the street and went to the Saline America Legion, where the Veteran's Memorial Wall was rededicated.
