Question 9 for School Board Candidates: How Will You Govern?
This is the ninth of 10 questions posed to Saline Area Schools Board of Education candidates.

Hypothetical: You know you're right on an issue. But the public opinion is overwhelmingly opposed to your stance. Do you vote for what you know is right? Or do you vote the way the public wants you to vote?
David Friese
Hate these types of questions but decision making should be based upon what is right and not necessarily popular.

As an elected representative I will vote my principle on the vast majority of votes. I will maintain an open mind and consider all the facts before casting a vote. Communicating with stakeholders on an issue will weigh heavily when deciding a position on an issue before the Board.

I make data driven decisions. I can make unemotional choices and have no rigid political views. I will consider all positions before making an educated decision. I will listen to all parties with an open mind; there are no issues on which I have irrevocably made up my mind. People often believe the first information that they get; I will consider all the evidence, context and facts before making up my mind.
David Zimmer
I learned long ago that you should never answer hypothetical questions, because until one has all the facts related to an issue, I can’t say what I would do. From a decision making perspective, I have learned through my 30 plus years in Human Resources, that understanding the facts in an issue are critical in making a good decision. In that regard, I can tell you that I would not vote on something that I did not feel I understood the facts relevant to the issue under consideration.
