Saline City Council to Consider Appointment, Bunten Retirement, Health Care Benefits a Tax Settlement and More

Following a work session on health care benefits, city council meets at 7:30 p.m.

Saline City Council meets at tonight.

Before the official meeting begins, council and department heads will discuss health insurance plans during a work session that begins at 6 p.m.

  • When the regular meeting begins at 7:30 p.m., the first order of business is a recommendation to Jim Roth, the leading vote getter in the , to city council. Roth fills the vacancy left by Glenn Law, from council to take a teaching job in Northern Michigan. Roth’s elected term begins in January.
  • Council will consider a motion to acknowledge receipt of letter and to thank him for his service. Bunten, who planned to stay on until July 2012 to train a second in command, retires Jan. 16, 2012.
  • Michigan State Trooper Lt. Gary McGee will speak to council about a plan to at several locations along Michigan Avenue.
  • Council will consider a motion to approve a Michigan Tax Tribunal settlement with Thyssen Krupp Materials. The settlement would result in a tax refund of $1,244.
  • Council will be updated on how a plan to eliminate might .
  • Council will consider options to comply with the Michigan Senate Bill 7, which gives the city the opportunity to change the way it provides health insurance to city employees. PA 152 sets a “hard cap” for public employers with regard to medical benefit plan costs, and provides an option for an 80/20 cost share, or the option to opt-out entirely through a two-thirds vote of the elected body.
