Huron Valley Ambulance responders treated a family cat for smoke inhalation. Hoeft said the cat appeared relative unharmed despite taking in a lot of smoke. The cat was treated with special oxygen equipment designed for animals that had been donated to the fire department by Saline Animal Hospital, Hoeft said.

Hoeft said the home was heavily damaged by smoke. About 25 percent of the home was burned, he said. A parked vehicle was also burned.
Hoeft said homeowner was burning brush when the flames spread to nearby shrubbery, the deck and then the home.
Hoeft urged homeowners to be watchful when burning.
“You need to pay extra attention because of the very dry conditions we’ve had this summer,” Hoeft said. “And you should make sure to burn far away from your home.”
