Saline Girls Run Away From Field at Siena Heights Meet

Thrower Randi Bennett was a double winner, taking the shot put and the discus as Saline won another meet.

The Saline Hornets girls’ track and field ran away with the Siena Heights Invitational Friday.

Saline finished with 182 points, far ahead of second place Pioneer (144.5 points).

Thrower Randi Bennett had another huge day, winning in the discus (118-04) and shot put (35-05).

Samantha Richart cleared 5-02 to win the high jump. Rachel Maxton, Wendy Szuminski and Jacqueline Marchidon finished tied for fourth in high jump (5-0).

Sophomore Quenee’ Dale continued her big season, winning the 100 hurdles in 15:05. Saline’s only relay win came in the 400, where Amanda Luurtsema, Samantha Richart, Alexa Ross and Dale finished in 49.63.

Other strong performances came in the:

• 3200 relay, where Abby Rentschler, Amy Creutz, Elianna Shwayder and Lauren Green were second in  9:24.13.

• The 800 relay, where Ross, Richart, Luurtsema and Natalie Wysocki were third in 1:47.9.

• The 1600 relay, where Bethany Easom, Richart, Wysocki and Maria Romero finished third in 4:02.66.

• The pole vault, where Samantha Szuminski finished second with a vault of 9 feet. Lillian Scheske was third (8-06) and Elizabeth Gentile was fourth (8-00).

• The long jump, where Jacqueline Marchidon was fourth with a leap of 17-02.

• The 300 hurdles, where Easom was third (47.22) and Wysocki was fifth (48.2).

• The 3200, where Gloria Park (11:28.24), Alyssa Cummings (11:40.41) and Amy Frauhammer (11:42.17) finished 2-3-4.

• The 1600, where Rentschler (5:01.73), Shwayder (5:11.98) and Creutz  (5:15.84) finished 2-3-4.

• The 800, where Lauren Green was third in 2:18.77.

• The 200, where Alexa Ross was fourth (26.82).

• The 100, where Dale was third (12.92) and Luurtsema was fifth (13.10)

Small Saline Team 2nd at River Rat

A smaller Saline team took second at the River Rat Invitational Saturday.

The Hornets finished with 97 points, finishing well behind Ann Arbor Huron.

Randi Bennett continued her winning ways. She won the shot put (37-04) and discus (118-00). Amelia Wittig was fifth in discus (95-07).

Kelsey Flanagan was seventh in the 500 meters (1:03.49)

Samantha Rathfon (2:34.77), Kelly Richart (2:35.27) and Alexis Ammon (2:36.50) finished 4-5-6 in the 800. Melanie Schroeder, Jenny Kise and Jessica Livsey went 6-7-8 in the 1600.

Alyssa Scheske (5th, 11:56.94) and Lindsay Walter (6th, 12:11.26) placed in the 3200.

Samantha Dicks  was seventh in the 100 hurdles. Sara Palmerton was third in the 300 hurdles while Dicks was fifth and Lindsey McQuade was seventh.

The 400 relay team of Alana Holis, Lillian Scheske, Abby McQuade and Samantha Dicks was third in 52.46.

Dicks, Palmerton, Kelsey Flanagan and Holis were fourth in 800 relay (1:51.52).  Flanagan, McQuade, Richart and Dicks finished fifth in the 1600 relay. Jenny Kise, Richart, Alyssa Scheske and Melanie Schroeder were fourth in the 3200 relay.
