Saline Track Teams Finish Undefeated in SEC

The Hornet track teams defeated Skyline Tuesday to finish the SEC regular season undefeated.

The boys won 118-19 and the girls won 121-16.

Matt Goeman won the 200 in 23.2, nipping Thomas Eby (23.22). Goeman also won the 400, finishing in 51.7.

Spencer Bishop won the 800 in 1:56.93. Nick Renberg won the 1,600 in 4:27.70, barely edging Andrew Kitto (4:27.99). Kitto won the 3,200 in 10:14.66.

Thomas Eby won the 110 hurdles in 16.03 seconds. Jordan King took the 300 hurdles in 44.62.

In the field, Steven Bastien recorded a 14 foot, one inch pole vault to win. He won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet and ¼ inches.

Michael Smutny won the high jump, clearing 6’1. John Smutny won the discus with a throw of 137 feet, 2 inches. Ike Nwokeji won the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 4 inches.

In the girls events, Amanda Luurtsema took the 100 in 12.65. Bethany Easom won the 100 hurdles in 16.8. Quenee’ Dale took the 300 hurdles in 46.8.

In the distance events, Elianna Shwayder won the 800 in 2:21.63. Maria Romero won the 1600 in 5:28.92. Gloria Park won the 3200 in 11:33.36.

In the field, Wendy Szuminski took the pole vault, clearing nine feet. Jacqueline Marchildon won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet. Wendy Szuminski won the high jump at 5’1. Samantha Richart and Rachel Paxton also cleared 5’1.

Randi Bettnett won both throwing events. In the discus, she threw 119 feet, 8 inches. In the shot put, she threw 36 feet, 10 inches.

The Hornets run at Siena Heights University Friday in preparation for next week’s regional at Saline High School.
