You Make the Call: Safe or Out?

Bedford defeated Saline 2-0 in extra innings at Saturday's district semifinal at Saline High School.

In the top of the eighth, with the secore 0-0, Kim Jesse singled to lead off. That brought up Jaycie Swick, who hit a grounder to short. Saline shortstop Laura Vaccaro tossed tossed the ball to Sam Bruley, on her way to second as Jesse was sliding into the base. Jesse was was called safe.

But we weren't so sure that was the right call. (See the video.)

It might have been a big out, had the call gone the other way.

Pitcher Kristina Zalewski retired the next hitter on a flyball to center. Jessi Warner followed by battling back from an 0-2 count and then hitting a double off the end of her bat to rightfield, scoring two runs.
