2 Teens Arrested After High-Speed Chase Through Macomb Co.: Police

Two Detroit 16-year-olds were arrested in connection with the chase, but a third person got away on foot, according to police.​​​​

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — Two teens were arrested early Wednesday morning after leading officers on a wild chase in a stolen car across Macomb County, according to police.

Police said officers found a stolen Kia that was moving on Metropolitan Parkway, near Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights at 3 a.m.

Officers tried stopping the car, but the driver sped away, leading to a high-speed pursuit through subdivisions, according to police.

The driver eventually got back onto Metropolitan Parkway and turn north onto Van Dyke Avenue, according to police.

Police said the driver turned off the Kia's headlights and sped through red lights and oncoming traffic, reaching up to 100 miles per hour.

The driver then crashed into a building while trying to turn on Van Dyke Avenue in Utica, according to police.

After the crash, three people ran away in different directions from the stolen Kia, according to police.

Police did not say if the teens were injured in the crash.

"Due to the outstanding, pro-active policing by our officers, a stolen Kia was recovered and two dangerous suspects were taken off the streets," Sterling Heights Police Capt. Mario Bastianelli said in a statement. "Once again, our officers put their lives on the line to keep Sterling Heights one of the safest communities and capture criminals who were likely en route to continue their criminal behavior."
