Macomb Board of Commissioners Recognizes 3 Shelby Residents For Volunteer Work

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners honored three Shelby Township residents last as outstanding volunteers.

More than 60 county residents were recognized during the June 7 Board Meeting.

All the volunteers were nominated from a wide variety of charitable organizations, veterans groups, churches, schools, hospitals, senior citizen facilities, and more. Each
honoree donated at least 150 hours of his/her time to volunteer activities in 2011, and is either a Macomb County resident or performed volunteer work which benefitted Macomb County’s citizens and/or communities.

The Shelby residents recognized were:

• Kim Sikes, for volunteering 240 hours with Friends of the Octogon House in Washington Township.
• Carolyn Curtis, who volunteered 200 hours at Monfort Elementary School.
• David Wixson because he volunteered 150 hours with the American Diabetes Association.

The Board also presented certificates of appreciation to volunteers from the Retired and senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Senior Companion Program last week.

“I have a great appreciation for the people who so generously give of their time and energy in
this county. It takes a special kind of person to volunteer,” said Board of Commissioners Chair
Kathy D. Vosburg. “The Board and I are thankful and proud of these individuals for their
sense of service.”
