Applications now available for award-winning UCS programs

Utica Community Schools is now hosting parent meetings and accepting applications for three award-winning high school-level programs.
Applications are now being accepted from families of eighth-grade students for the Utica Academy for International Studies, the Utica Center for Science and Industry and the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology.
“Utica Community Schools provides our families with a portfolio of options to support the unique interests and goals of our students,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said. “Combined with our four comprehensive high schools, these programs help ensure Utica Community Schools graduates are prepared to be internationally competitive in college and career.”
The Utica Academy for International Studies is a 9-12 International Baccalaureate high school. UAIS was recently named Michigan’s Most Academically Challenging high school in Michigan and the 39th in the United States by the Washington Post.
UAIS information nights will be held November 25 and December 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the school, 37400 Dodge Park Road just north of 16 Mile Road in Sterling Heights.
Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology is a competitive half-day program for students in grades 9-12 who are interested in pursuing science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM)-related fields. Students attend UCMST from the district’s four high schools, where they pursue the remainder of their course requirements.
UCMST students collectively have one of Macomb County’s highest student ACT averages and annually earn top international awards for its robotics team, the ThunderChickens.
UCMST information nights are scheduled for December 4 and 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Instructional Resource Center, 14201 Canal Road near Saal in Sterling Heights.
Utica Center for Science and Industry blends rigorous academics with real world applications. The half-day program is designed for students in grades 9-12 who are intrigued by complex systems and gravitate toward project-based learning and using technology to solve problems.
The program has been honored by the Michigan Association of School Boards and Automation Alley, a regional consortium of businesses that markets the region to international companies. UCSI was also recently featured by NBC News in its EducationNation series.
UCSI information nights are scheduled for November 26 and December 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Instructional Resource Center, 14201 Canal Road near Saal in Sterling Heights.
