Take a look at some crime briefs in Shelby and Utica over the past week.

Utica Woman Robbed at Home by 'Heavyset' Scam Artists

A woman told police she was robbed of $80 cash from her purse Sunday after she allowed a couple to come into her home to talk about an apartment rental.

The victim told police a man and woman came to her apartment and asked about the vacant adjacent apartment that  she was renting. While the victim spoke with the woman in the kitchen, the man went into the woman’s bedroom and stole the cash from her purse, police said.

Theft from a Vehicle

A GPS and a flat-screen touch radio were stolen from a parked vehicle last Thursday evening or early Friday morning.

The victim told police Friday that when he came out his home on Utica Green Road, he discovered the driver side door and the trunk of his Saturn Ion were open.

Missing from the vehicle was a TomTom GPS unit, a Boss 2400 Watt Class D Amp from the trunk and 7 .5-inch touch-screen radio.

Police said the thief or thieves damaged the dashboard while stealing the radio and they must have used a lockout tool or wedge to get into the vehicle.

The case is closed until a suspect or a witness becomes available.
