Macomb Woman Charged After Driving Drunk, Wrong Way On Freeway: Police
Shelby Township officers shut down the freeway to prevent the truck from crashing head-on with other vehicles, according to police.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI — A Macomb Township woman is facing prison time after officials said she was driving drunk the wrong way on a Shelby Township freeway in March, according to police.
Alexandria Marie Remington, 37, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and a charge of possession of drug analogues. She was placed in jail on a $25,000 bond.
If convicted, Remington faces up to two years in prison for the analogues possession charge. The driving while intoxicated charge is a misdemeanor.

Officers found a black Dodge Ram pickup truck moving north on Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway) southbound lanes near 23 Mile Road at about midnight on March 18, according to police.

The woman driving the pickup truck continued driving on the freeway until she stopped at 27 MIle Road, according to police.
Officers then spoke to the driver, later identified as Remington, and said they could smell alcohol on her breath, according to police.
After failing sobriety tests, Remington then refused to take a breathalyzer, according to police.
Officers then arrested Remington in connection with the incident.
"I am thankful for our officer’s quick response to alert other drivers and shut down the freeway, helping to avoid a serious head-on crash," Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide said in a statement. "Our department will continue to have zero tolerance for drivers who choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Shelby Township."
