Peewee Wrestler, 8, Wins National Heavyweight Title

Pint-size powerhouse wins Utica wrestling club national recognition.

Pint-size powerhouse Jordan Kwiatkowski’s win at a national wrestling competition last weekend has thrust his Utica wrestling club into the national spotlight.

Kwiatkowski, 8, won first place in the 7-and 8-year-old heavyweight division at the NUWAY Nationals youth wrestling finals at the Kellog Center in Battle Creek, last weekend.

The Sterling Heights resident trains at Christian-based sporting club, Crown of Thorns in Utica.

During the competition, the 108-pound wrestler competed against other heavyweight wrestlers -- which were considered 85 pounds and up -- from all over the country.

“Jordan continued to tear through the competition, pinning and holding 3 of his 4 opponents scoreless,” a news release said.

For his final win, Kwiatkowski defeated top-ranked 6-time California State Champion Katja Osteen 9-8.

“Jordan's accomplishments during the wrestling regular season, State Finals and National Finals have shown him to be one of the most dominant youth wresters in the country,” the news release said.
