Robo Call Warning about 'Secret Meeting' to Approve Towing Contract Goes Out

Several residents have said they've received robo calls warning them of Shelby's 'secret meeting' Friday where they will vote on a towing company that has funded political campaigns.

Several residents have received a robo call Thursday warning them that Shelby Township will approve a towing contract at a work session meeting Friday that will cost the "taxpayers hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars."

The Board of Trustees announced at the last public meeting that they will discuss an and conduct interviews of towing companies that have submitted bids during a Jan. 27 work session at 1 p.m.

"Standby for a taxpayer alert. Tomorrow afternoon in a secret meeting, Township Supervisor Richard Stathakis will be approving a new towing contract for a company owned by a major campaign contributor. This contract could potentially give Stathakis' pal hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars. This meeting is at 1 p.m. at the Township Hall. If you attend, they cannot stop you from speaking up during the meeting. It's critical that Shelby taxpayers attend this meeting to demand an open and fair bid process.

"Anyone in Shelby get a robo call today to attend a Twp mtg tomorrow re: voting on a new towing company......the robo person even said.....you as a taxpayer are allowed to ask ?'s. Ok....who is behind these shenanigans?" posted a Shelby-Utica Facebook follower.

It's unclear who is responsible for the calls.

Stathakis has said the board has until Feb. 7 to make their final decision on which towing company will receive the contract.
