Restored 1962 VW Bus Visits Malow Jr. High Educator

Malow Junior High School Assistant Principal Janice Fusco and two of her students were paid a visit several weeks ago by two men in a restored 1962 VW bus.

The stop in Shelby Township was just one of many by two guys in a bus traveling 5,000+ miles through 20 states to visit and capture stories from a pool of 500,000 People to People Ambassador Programs' alumni in honor of the programs 50 year anniversary.

The People to People Ambassador Program was started 50 years ago by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to provide educational travel opportunities for students and educators.

The purpose of the bus tour is to tell the story of how international travel has impacted the lives of program alumni and their communities. Those interested can follow the bus tour by visiting EpicBusTour.com.

Begining in 1994, Fusco bagan traveling with People to People as an educator multiple times across Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and Hawaii.

As an Abmassador, Fusco would lead groups of Macomb County students all over the world to experience different cultures, and meet world leaders.

"What I got out of it is we learned that everybody is the same," she said.

Fusco said the experiences were extremely valuable to her students, who often kept journals and even earned school credit for their travels.

The People to People bus came to Fusco’s hometown as a way to recognize her travel and support of the People to People organization over the years.
