Shelby Approves Special Land Use Approval for Towing Yard

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved a special land use application to permit the outdoor storage of towed vehicles at 6075 Auburn Road.

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees questioned business owner Luca Ujkic Tuesday about parking vehicles on the seven-acre lot before receiving the consent from the township.

Ujkic had said it was a mistake and the vehicles had been removed.

“I’m comfortable we won’t issue permits until compliance,” said Shelby Township Planning Director Glen Wynn.

Planning Commission to Review Final Site Plan for New Apartment Complex

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees agreed Tuesday to approve a conceptual site plan for a 344-unit apartment complex on 23 Mile Road, between Schoenherr and Hayes, and send it back to the planning commission.

Builder Damiano DeMercurio had originally proposed plans for a 418-unit apartment complex but returned to the planning commission in early 2012 with a scaled back vision for the 34-acre parcel of land, with several interior parks.

Since the site’s last consent judgment was designated for senior housing, apartments and low-rise condominiums, it will return to the planning commission for final approval and then to the board for a revised consent judgment.
