Shelby Township Resident Suffers Burns in House Fire

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A Shelby Township home owner suffered second- and third-degree burns in a Thursday night fire on Schimmel Avenue, fire officials said Saturday.

The male victim was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Troy by Shelby Township firefighters and was then transported to University of Michigan. The blaze took place around 9:15 p.m. in the single-story home spanning about 1,200 square feet, Battalion Chief John McCoy said.

It's believed to have originated in the kitchen but the cause remains under investigation. The total estimated damage was not immediately clear. No one else was reported injured.
