Prosecutors said Farish stabbed his mom multiple times while she was sleeping in bed inside a home at the Shelby Oaks Apartments near West Utica and Mound roads in Shelby Township at 6:23 a.m. on Jan. 9.

When officers arrived, Farish who was still armed with a knife, confronted them and refused their orders to drop the knife, prosecutors said.

Farish then charged officers, who opened fire, striking Farish, prosecutors said.

Farish was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound, prosecutors said.

Farish was also referred to the Community Corrections for a mental health evaluation, prosecutors said.

"We will vigorously pursue justice for those who brazenly assault our law enforcement officers. Such acts not only jeopardize the safety of those who protect our communities but also undermine the very fabric of a society built on respect for the rule of law," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
