UCS Teachers 'Arrested' for a Good Cause
Utica Community School teachers spend time behind bars for a good cause.
Utica Education Association President Liza Parkinson and Warren Education Association President Jon Fielbrandt were arrested at Abuelo's in Sterling Heights Wednesday.
Yes, it’s true. The educators were “locked up,” but for a good cause. Parkinson and Fielbrandt were sprung from jail after the UEA and WEA pitched in $4,100 for their charity of choice, Muscular Dystrophy Association.
“UEA members give generously to many good causes, and I’m proud we have been able to raise money in the fight against muscular dystrophy,” said Parkinson. "Getting locked up for a little while has been well worth it to bring attention to this disease and the organization committed to fighting it.”
In addition to the funds raised by Parkinson and Fielbrandt, UEA member Jacqueline Zawierucha participated in the event as well, representing the Jack Harvey Elementary Student Council. The efforts at that school raised nearly $1,300 for MDA.
