Trooper Shoots, Injures Macomb County Man Armed With Long Gun: Police

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A state trooper shot and injured a man who was armed with a long gun Sunday afternoon in Macomb County, according to Michigan State Police.
The shooting happened near Van Dyke and 35 Mile Road in Bruce Township at 4 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
Troopers were told to "be on the lookout" for a Jeep SUV that was involved in a felonious assault in Shelby Township, according to police.

Shortly later, a trooper spotted the Jeep dive off Van Dyke to the right side into a cornfield, according to police.
As the trooper pulled alongside the Jeep, the 31-year-old Chesterfield man of the Jeep exited the SUV with a long gun, according to police.

The trooper then shot the man in the leg, according to police.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, according to police.
The trooper was not injured in the shooting, according to police.
The trooper was placed on administrative leave per departmental policy, according to police.
Police were still investigating the shooting and will send a report over to the Attorney General’s office.
"Currently, there is a lot of on-scene work to do. Detectives from the Third District IRT are processing the scene with our forensic laboratory, writing search warrants and our drone team is mapping the scene," said First Lt. Mike Shaw. "The investigation pends interviews with the suspect as well as review of body and vehicle cameras and any other evidence from the area."
