Turn Trash into Treasure at the Shelby Township Art Fair

The Shelby Solid Waste & Recycling Committee and the Shelby Township Beautification Committee will host a "Trashy Treasures" homemade art competition during the Shelby Township Art Fair Aug. 10 - 11. 

Facts about the competition:

• The event is intended to promote recycling and green living
• The categories are divided by age: youth – 12 and under; teen – 12 to 17, and adult – 18 and up. 
  
• Entries must be made entirely of recycled items, and for planning purposes, a photo of each entry must be submitted to the Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department by August 1.
  
• The winning works will also be displayed in the lobby of the Shelby Township Municipal Building through the end of August.
• Winners will be chosen by a tally of ballots completed by fairgoers at the Shelby Township Art Fair on August 10 and 11
• The Art Fair will also feature works by over 70 artists and artisans and a number of vendors in the Michigan Made Products Area. There will also be live music, Sand Sculpting by Big Wave Dave, Chainsaw Carving by Mike Weiss, a Kid’s Craft and Activity Area, and classic art reproductions from the DIA Inside|Out Project, and more.

“The Shelby Township Art Fair has come a long way since it started with a few dozen artists 30 years ago," Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department Director Joe Youngblood said in a release. "We are always looking for new innovative ways to engage the community at our events, and this competition is a great way for people of all ages to showcase their creativity."
