Letter to the Editor: Residents Should Care About City Council Votes

Erin Stahl urges residents to follow the votes taken by City Council.

Dear Editor,
Do the citizens of St. Clair Shores care? Or are they just so tired from surviving day to day and living paycheck to paycheck that they are unaware of what is happening in our community?
Citizens, do you care that the Courthouse was torn down weeks before receiving the $2 million loan/bond?
City staff and City Council made sure you voted on the $2.6 million so-called "Police and Fire" millage but you do NOT get to vote on a $2 million bond/loan?
Do you care that you did not get to vote on this $2 million loan/bond before your family was swiftly and strategically forced into being a "co-signer" on this loan?
Do you care that our City Charter, the local law, was amended in 1983 to protect us from our city taking out a loan/bond without us voting on it?
"10.276 Sec. 10.6. Effective upon passage, no bonds, or any other obligations which pledges the full faith and credit of the City shall be issued unless approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon at any general or special election."
Do you care that the city is now trying to justify their wrongful actions in issuing the bonds without our vote?
They could admit their mistake, temporarily suspend the project, and bring it to the vote of The People.
Let's see if you care to hold our city to the level of honor and integrity we all expect, and should demand, from our city employees and elected officials.
