Barricade Coming Down at City Hall

A barricade at Trenton City Hall has prevented access to the building for more than a year.

A barricade at the northern entrance of is set to come down as soon as the crumbling stairs leading up to the entrance have been replaced.

Council members voted in favor of replacing the entire length of stairs with an 8-foot section of stairs leading up to two doors that serve as the main entrance to City Hall.

The construction of the new stairs will likely cost about $36,000 and will be paid for using money from the general fund.

Council members considered simply rebuilding the stairs as they are now, but members said the increased cost prevented them from choosing this option. The total cost for replacing the entire length of stairs was more than $45,000.

Construction is set to begin next week and could take up to three weeks to complete.
