The agent was assigned to the Detroit sector, according to a release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the agent died from an apparent suicide, according to police. The incident still is under investigation.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is fully cooperating with the investigation, according to a release.
"The Trenton Police Department sends our condolences to U.S. Customs and Border Protection on the loss of their agent," Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone said.
Paula Rivera-Kerr, a media relations representative for Oakwood Healthcare Inc., said the agent was not an Oakwood patient and did not have any interactions with the physicians or nurses Monday night. Â
"We are saddened to learn a U.S. Border Patrol Agent was found dead in the parking lot of Oakwood Southshore Medical Center in Trenton last night," Rivera-Kerr said.
She added at no time were employees or patients at risk.
