Boy Scout Food Drive Aids St. Philip Food Pantry

With many in Downriver struggling to make ends meet, Trenton Boy Scout Troop #1721 held a food drive to aid St. Philip Food Pantry.

With the effects of COVID-19 still being felt and the rising cost of living, many in Downriver are struggling to make ends meet and need food assistance. To address the local need for food, Trenton Boy Scout Troop #1721 recently held a food drive to aid the ministry of St. Philip Food Pantry.

On Saturday, November 12th members of Trenton’s Boy Scout Troup #1721 delivered 862 bags of food (not cans or individual items, but bags of canned and boxed food) to St. Philip Food Pantry. Over 100 scouts and supporters participated. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential. Assisting with sorting and stacking food was Trenton High School’s Rotary Interact Club as a community service project.

“We are so thankful to Boy Scout Troup #1721 for all the food that was given to our Food Pantry,” said Pat Hudok, co-leader of St. Philip Food Pantry. “The number of people needing food is growing in our area and this food will be a blessing during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We also want to thank the Trenton High School Rotary Interact Club and food pantry volunteers for help with processing the food items.”
