Cordless Drill Leads Police to Arrest

arrested a man after finding a cordless drill bearing the man’s name at Michigan Foundation Company, where someone allegedly attempted to remove a pin on a crane shovel.

While on patrol, a Trenton police officer said he heard a loud banging noise and saw a man walking away from a large metal crane shovel at about 1 p.m. March 18 at 1 West Jefferson Ave.

The officer turned his patrol car around to speak with the man, but the man was gone.

At the scene, the officer said he found a cordless drill with the initials C.S. and a full name written on it in marker and a broken drill bit.

He said he saw gouge marks made on a metal locking pin connected to the crane shovel, β€œas if someone was trying to take the pin off of the shovel,” according to a police report.

The officer tagged the drill into evidence and did a check on the name found on the drill.

The check led the officer to a 39-year-old Riverview man who had outstanding warrants and a suspended license.

Later that day, Trenton Police, in partnership with the Riverview Police Department, arrested the man for driving while his license is suspended and the outstanding warrants.

Police found a battery for a cordless drill similar to the one recovered at Michigan Foundation in the man’s vehicle also bearing the initials C.S.
