Elizabeth Park to Host First Trenton Run for Special Olympics

will play host to the first Trenton Community Run Friday.

The 2-mile race starts at 2 p.m. and will take place inside the park. Runners can register online for $25, which includes a dry-fit t-shirt.

The person behind the run is Trenton resident Sara Boritzki who said she was disappointed there wasn't a community run for the Special Olympics in Wayne County.

"After my first year (running for the Special Olympics) last year, I was determined to get a run/walk started locally," Boritzki said. "So with the help of Wayne County and the , I was able to secure Elizabeth Park."

Boritzki said she knows first hand how expensive the Special Olympics can be. Her aunt participated in the Special Olympics last year and this year Boritzki hopes to help pay for costs associated with training, uniforms, transportation, etc.

She added the event at Elizabeth Park is informal and runners are welcome to run, walk, skip or bicycle and go as far or short as they want.

"Maybe in a few years we will be able to have enough participation at Trenton that I will be able to make two separate events," Boritzki said.
