TRENTON, MI — A former Wayne County cop was killed and a woman was seriously injured Monday morning in what police are saying was a domestic shooting, according to a Fox 2 Detroit report.

The shooting happened at 7 a.m. Monday morning inside a home in the 5500 block of Elmhurst Drive in Trenton, according to police.

Officers were called to the scene for a welfare check and met a family member, who unlocked the door for officers, according to police.

Inside the home, officers found a man dead and a woman with severe injuries, according to police.

Both had sustained gunshot wounds, according to police.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and last listed in critical condition, according to police.

The man was identified as Jeffery Vamos, who served as an officer with the Flat Rock Police Department from 1996 to 2017, according to the report.
