FBI Report: Crime in Trenton Increased in 2010
Stats show Trenton had an increase in six types of crimes – violent crime, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary and motor vehicle theft.

Crime in Trenton increased noticeably in 2010 over the previous year, according to a national crime report released Monday by the FBI.
Violent crimes increased from 18 in 2009 to 41 in 2010.
While most crime categories increased in Trenton, the city did see a decrease in larceny theft from 201 to 185, while murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape and arson remained the same.

There were no reports of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, one report of forcible rape and one report of arson in 2009 and 2010.
Trenton Police Chief William Lilienthal could not be reached for comment.

The increase in Trenton crime goes against national crime statistics, as outlined in the Crime in the United States report.
Nationally, violent crimes dropped 6 percent in 2010 compared with 2009, the fourth consecutive year of decline. For the eighth consecutive year, the volume of property crimes went down as well, 2.7 percent.
The report was compiled from data submitted to the FBI by more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies from around the nation. It tracks the number of reported murders and non-negligent manslaughters, forcible rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larceny-thefts, motor vehicle thefts and arsons.
