Hey Trenton! What Should Be Done With the Former Riverside Hospital Property?

It appears the project at the former Riverside Hospital property is a no-go. What should the current owner, local doctor Iqbal Nasir, do with the property? We want to hear from you!

It seems the former Riverside Hospital will not be used for a major project that's been in the works for nearly two years.

Mayor Kyle Stack said that property owner Iqbal Nasir, chief of medicine at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center, told her he would that was to include a skilled nursing center and assisted living facility. The project was to be known as Riverside Commons.

Residents have complained about the blighted property for several years since the hospital closed in 2002.

City Administrator Jim Wagner said he and Stack met with high-ranking representatives of Henry Ford Health System who have offered to extended their help to assist the city in finding solutions for the the property. HFHS no longer owns the property and has no legal obligation to it.

"Henry Ford Health System has been and is still committed to continuing to assist the City of Trenton with this matter," Stephanie Scheer, Marketing and Public Relations Specialist for Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, said in an email.
