Photo Gallery: Emergency Response Training Exercise at Rotary Park

An emergency personnel training exercise had children from all over Downriver feigning injury to help prepare Oakwood Southshore Hospital for disaster.

Children sporting fake injuries and writhing in pretend pain helped the , and prepare for disaster Tuesday at Rotary Park.

The annual emergency response personnel exercise depicted a senario where a large passenger vessel exploded, leaving several victims in need of emergency care.

Children from all over Downriver helped make the exercise seem more authentic by wearing make-up and feigning injury.

The full scale exercise included 65 U.S. and Canadian federal, state, and local emergency response partner agencies.

"The exercise is designed to challenge participants to make difficult decisions, carry out essential functions and maintain a common operating picture during an incident of international significance," according to a release from the U.S. Coast Guard. "Interagency coordination and communication will play key roles in the exercise’s success, as well as enhance readiness for future incidents."
