Police Searching for So Called 'Bicycle Bandit'

Police are looking for a man who allegedly rides a BMX bicycle through neighborhoods before breaking into homes and stealing several valuable items.

Trenton police described the so called "Bicycle Bandit" as a white male in his early 20s with dark hair and a large tattoo on his right arm.

Sgt. James Smellie of the said the man is wanted in connection with at least four break-ins in Trenton and several more in Woodhaven and Brownstown.

Smellie said the break-ins typically happen during the day while people are at work. No Trenton residents were home at the time of the break-ins.

"Residents should keep an eye out for somebody who doesn't belong in their neighborhood," Smellie said. "If you see somebody in your neighborhood that doesn’t belong give us a call."

Recently, a 20-year-old Trenton resident reported to police someone broke into his home and stole a number of valuable items at about 11:41 a.m. March 23 in the 5000 block of Lisa Court.

Police said they believe the "Bicycle Bandit" was responsible for the break-in.

The resident said he came home to find the doors to his house were open and many things in the house had been disturbed according to a Trenton police report.

Police said, "every room had been ransacked with most closets and dresser drawers open and many items dumped onto the floor" according to the same report.

The items the man reported stolen out of his house were a 1903 Winchester pump action rifle, two laptops, two Xbox 360s with various accessories, a diamond pinky ring in white gold, two watches, a cell phone and various other pieces of jewelry not yet determined.
