Stuff You Need to Know: Aug. 31

Here are a few things to help you get your day started right.

Good morning Trenton. Here's a rundown of what you need to know today.

  1. I hope you aren't getting sick of all the sunshine, because it will soon be gone. Enjoy it while you can. The National Weather Service is calling for a partly sunny day with a high near 80 degrees and winds up to 6 mph.
  2. In recognition of Trenton's rich hockey traditions, we bring you the Hockey Term of the Day: flip shot, a shot in which a player cups the puck in his stick, then flips it with his wrists up off the ice towards the goal; this sometimes makes the puck harder to block. Terms brought to you by www.firstbasesports.com.
  3. The varsity football game against Gibraltar Carlson is on Thursday, Sept. 1. Trenton Patch previously reported the game was on Friday. The correction has been made to the story.
  4. The American Red Cross is in need of blood and platelet donations to aid people affected by hurricane Irene. Click to see how you can help.
  5. When was the last time you donated blood?
