Trenton Mayor Declares Today J.J. Putz Day

Former Trenton Trojan J.J. Putz is a closing pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Putz played several sports at Trenton High School including baseball, football and basketball.

Mayor Kyle Stack read aloud a proclamation at Hedke Elementary School Thursday declaring Nov. 8 J.J. Putz Day in Trenton.

Students gathered in the Hedke gymnasium to hear Putz speak to them about following their dreams.

Stack began by saying it was a great day in Trenton.

"I'ts a great day in Trenton when we can show off the people of our community," Stack said.

Putz took a few moments to answer questions asked by Hedke students. Here are a few of the students' questions followed by Putz's answers:

What is it like being a professional baseball player?

"I love playing baseball. I've been playing since I was eight years old. I wake up some mornings and pinch myself. It took a lot of hard work to get where I am."

What do you do besides play baseball?

"I play XBOX games like 'Call of Duty' and college basketball."

What types of books do you read?

"I like military books. I have a lot of respect for the men and women in the military. I had the honor of meeting some Navy SEAL's."

Do you like mystery shows?

"I love mystery shows. One of the mystery shows I grew up with was 'Scooby Doo.'"
