1 Dead, 1 Hurt In High-Speed Crash On I-75 In Oakland County: Police

Investigators were still trying to determine whether alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash.

TROY, MI — A man was killed and another man was injured in an Oakland County crash Monday night, according to police.

The crash happened at 11:19 p.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Maple Road in Troy, according to police.

Police said a 21-year-old man was speeding in a white BMW when he lost control of the car and left the roadway to the right.

The car then went into a ditch and hit a tree behind the parking lot of 600 Stephenson Highway, ejecting the driver, according to police.

The 21-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.

His passenger, a 19-year-old man, was also taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery. He was listed in stable condition and is expected to recover, according to police.

Investigators believe the driver was going more than 130 miles per hour before losing control. They were still trying to determine whether alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash.

Officials closed three lanes of the freeway for hours while they investigated. The lanes were cleared by 3 a.m.
