'Occupy Kalamata' to Benefit Forgotten Harvest

, Troy’s authentic Greek fast casual eatery recognized for being the home of the “World’s Greatest Gyro,” encourages patrons hungry for change to occupy Kalamata Greek Grill to help Forgotten Harvest and metro Detroiters.

On Occupy Kalamata Day, Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Kalamata will donate 15 percent of the restaurant’s gross sales to Forgotten Harvest, and will give all patrons who support the Occupy Kalamata movement a free Zesty Feta Dip and Pita Chips.

“The world seems like they’re angry and looking to occupy anything – Wall Street, Detroit, lavatories in airplanes.  We figured that these civic-minded ‘occupiers’ must have worked up a pretty good appetite,” said Tom Chinonis, one of Kalamata’s owners. “That’s where we come in. We’re offering great food and a way to give back to the community, all in a super clean place free of authorities bearing batons that hurt or mace that stings.”

To receive free Zesty Feta Dip and Pita Chips on Dec. 13, customers need only order any item and either (1) greet their friendly Kalamata cashier by stating, “Occupy Kalamata for Forgotten Harvest” or (2) show their Foursquare check-in at Kalamata with the event hashtag (#OCCUPYKALAMATA).

Added Chinonis, “And no worries, patrons don’t even need to know about, or understand, the Occupy movement that inspired Occupy Kalamata.  We just want to give out some delicious food and make donations to Forgotten Harvest. But if something is really bothering you, I suppose you can share it at the event – just keep it to yourself.” 

Supporters also can earn extra money for Forgotten Harvest prior to the event. For each “Occupy Kalamata” homemade sign uploaded on Kalamata’s Facebook page through Dec. 13, Kalamata will donate an additional $1 to Forgotten Harvest. OPA!
