Orlans Employees Donate to Beyond Basics Clothing Drive

and employees are helping to keep Metro Detroit warm this winter by donating coats and winter items to Beyond Basics – a school-centered program that brings targeted reading, writing and other literacy and self-expression programs to students in grades pre-K through 12.

The program originally began with a coat drive in 1999 and has since grown into an educational program reaching about 100 at-risk Metro Detroit children annually within the school system by guiding and supporting them through reading and writing programs.

"Michigan winters are challenging; it’s particularly hard on families who struggle financially," Orlans President and CEO Linda Orlans said. "Beyond Basics is an important educational lifeline for children who need some help ‘beyond the basics’, so we’re happy to support the organization in any way."

"The items were distributed Dec. 8 to the students at Burns Elementary/Middle School and Carver Elementary/Middle School," said Nancy Thomas, Beyond Basics Operations Director. "In addition to our education services, this donation is one of multiple ways Beyond Basics reaches out to the families within our schools. We’re very appreciative of the long-term, broad support we’ve received from the Orlans family of companies."

Orlans has been involved with Beyond Basics since 2004. Linda Orlans serves as legal counsel to the board of directors, in addition to donations and volunteer initiatives carried out by Orlans Associates and eTitle Agency employees.
