Troy Bus Drivers Take 3rd Place in 'Roadeo' Driving Competition

On May 19, 35 school bus drivers from eight Oakland County school districts (Birmingham, Lake Orion, Rochester, Southfield, Troy, Walled Lake, Waterford, and West Bloomfield) took a “busman’s holiday” and gathered in the Oakland Schools parking lot in Waterford to take part in tests of their driving skills during this year's "Roadeo" event.

They competed in 11 events that test skills such as depth perception, spatial relationships, mirror usage, backing techniques, railroad crossings, and student pick-up procedures.

Since the MAPT Region 18/Oakland County School Bus Roadeo began in 1994, Oakland County school bus drivers have participated in order to improve their driving skills and qualify for the Michigan School Bus Driving Championship, which will take place on June 20 at West Branch-Rose City Area Schools.
