OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — One moment, a couple was pushing a shopping cart out of Walmart. The next moment, they were struck by a pickup and tossed to the pavement, according to a news release.
On Nov. 8 at 1:02 p.m., Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call at Walmart in the 30000 block of Lyon Center Drive E for a pedestrian hit and run accident. Witnesses allege that a 74-year-old woman and 82-year-old man, both of the City of South Lyon, were hit and knocked to the pavement by a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The driver fled the parking lot.
Deputies located the unoccupied pickup truck nearby, and after a quick investigation discovered the driver's identity, a 65-year-old Lyon Township man. Deputies called the driver and arranged for him to come to the Lyon Township Substation. Upon arriving, the driver revealed he hit the pedestrians. He was arrested for leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Driving While License Suspended 2nd Offense and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant for an alcohol related charge.
