Driver Arrested for Concealed Weapon and Drugs After Traffic Stop

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Weapons offenses

Niagara and Eagle, July 14, 11:02 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle with a broken headlight. The driver, a 63-year-old Troy resident, was providing the officer with his license when the officer observed a CCW license in his wallet. The officer asked the driver if he had a carrying concealed pistol license. The driver advised he did and there was a gun under the driver’s seat. The officer checked the CCW license which expired in 2008. The driver was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. When officers checked the vehicle they discovered marijuana in the console. The driver was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

3000 block of Estates, July 3, 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.: Resident reports someone used her debit card numbers to make a $263 purchase at a Rite Aid store in Troy. Resident advised she did not make the transaction.

6000 block of Emerald Lake, July 1, 4 p.m.: Resident advised she was contacted by Credit One Bank inquiring if she had attempted to take out a loan for $600. Resident stated she did not attempt to get a loan.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

Harris and Rochester, July 13, 2:17 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for speeding, the driver a 26-year-old Troy resident was observed to have an odor of intoxicants coming from his person. The driver failed field sobrieties and officers discovered his license to be suspended. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated and driving while license suspended. Breath test results were .11 percent. 

Wattles and Livernois, July 14, 1 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for following too close and speeding. The driver, a 26-year-old Royal Oak resident opened his console to provide his driver’s license to the Officer, the Officer observed what he suspected was a bag of Marijuana in the console. The driver was asked to exit the vehicle and Officers observed strong odor of intoxicants coming from the driver. Officer found an open bottle of alcohol in the driver’s back pocket. The driver failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and open alcohol in a motor vehicle. The breath test results were .13 percent.

I-75 and Adams, July 15, 12:25 a.m.: Troy officers were dispatched to a possible drunk driver on I-75. Officer observed the vehicle swerve out of its land and then swerve back. The driver identified as a 49-year-old Glennie, MI resident admitted to drinking and appeared glassy eyed. The driver failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated (third offense) The driver also was suspended and had numerous warrants out for his arrest. The breath test results were .14 percent.

Larcenies from autos

Lifetime Fitness, 4700 Northfield Parkway, July 12: Complainant advises she hid her purse under the front seat of her vehicle while she worked out. When she came out she discovered her rear passenger window was smashed out and her purse was stolen. The value of the purse and wallet is $400. The purse contained various credit cards and identification.

Minors and alcohol

Robinwood Park, 640 Robinwood, July 13, 1:27 a.m.: Troy Officers were patrolling Robinwood Park when they observed several subjects in the park after park hours. The suspects, a 15-year-old Troy resident and a 15-year-old Garden City resident were both observed with slurred speech and admitted to drinking. Both subjects took breath tests and results were .08 percent. The suspects were returned home by officers.

Met Hotel, 5500 Crooks, July 13, 3:27 a.m.: Troy officers responded to a fight in progress. While en-route, Officers were advised the responsible party had just fled the scene. Officers located the vehicle with the suspect driving in the lot of the hotel. The driver identified as a 19-year-old Shelby Township resident, stated he had not been in a fight. Officers asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle to which officers detected a medium odor of intoxicants from the suspect. Officers interviewed the victims at the hotel who advised they were having a get together in one of the rooms when a fight broke out and the suspect shoved the victim causing her to have an injury to her nose. The suspect failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated and assault and battery.

Retail fraud

Macy's, 2750 West Big Beaver Road, July 12, 2:46 p.m.: Macy's loss prevention advised the suspect, a 55-year-old Detroit resident, was observed concealing cologne in a Target bag. The suspect then exited the store failing to pay for the cologne. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the cologne. Total value of the theft $260. The suspect was arrested for retail fraud.

JcPenney, 700 West Fourteen Mile Road, July 12, 6 p.m.: JcPenney loss prevention advised a 26-year-old Detroit resident and a 19-year-old Detroit resident were observed each selecting a pair of sandals, taking off their shoes and placing the sandals on their feet. The suspects then exited the store failing to pay for the sandals. Loss prevention stopped the suspects and recovered the stolen merchandise valued at $35 per pair of sandals. The suspects were arrested for retail fraud.

Macy's, 2750 West Big Beaver Road, July 13, 6:23 p.m.: Macy's loss prevention advised the suspect, a 19-year-old Clawson resident was observed selecting 14 items and entering the fitting room. When the suspect left, loss prevention officers checked the fitting room and only found seven items remaining. The suspect exited the store and loss prevention stopped the suspect. Loss prevention recovered the stolen merchandise valued at $477.40. The suspect was arrested for retail fraud.

Kohl's, 500 John R Road, July 14, 10:30 p.m.: Kohl’s loss prevention advised the suspect, a 43-year-old Sterling Heights resident was observed selecting merchandise (luggage, shoes and toys). The suspect then took the merchandise to the customer service counter and presented it for return. The return was completed then the suspect selected items and purchased them with the store credit she was given for false returns. The suspect concealed K-cups coffee in her cart and failed to pay for the K-cups. The suspect then exited the store. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the merchandise. Total value of the stolen merchandise $425.54. The suspect was arrested for retail fraud.
