HAP Will Move 1,100 workers to Troy By 2019
Henry Ford Health System subsidiary Health Alliance Plan (HAP) plans to move over a thousand workers from Southfield to Troy by early 2019.

Health Alliance Plan (HAP) announced Friday that it plans to move all Southfield operations to Troy. HAP, which describes itself as a “nonprofit health plan,” is owned by the Henry Ford Health System. The company will maintain Detroit and Flint facilities after moving Southfield employees to Troy, HAP said in a release.
Over 1,100 HAP employees and contractors will work out of the new new facility at 1414 E. Maple Road, Troy. The building will be leased by Henry Ford Health System and subleased by HAP. HAP says the facility will feature “prominent exterior HAP signage.” HAP will take up three of the building’s five floors, trimming the operation to 180,000 square feet from 216,000 square feet in Southfield.
The company says acquiring a building in Flint last year more than met most of HAP’s square footage needs, so scaling back in Metro Detroit made sense.

"Not only do we currently have more space than we need in Southfield, but it isn't space that can be easily reconfigured to meet our needs," said Terri Kline, HAP’s president and CEO. "The new facility offers us greater flexibility and opportunities for better collaboration – not just among internal teams, but also with our customers and business partners. In this era of non-stop change, insurers need to be nimble and able to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our members and other stakeholders. The Troy space allows us to do just that by creating efficiencies, which in turn helps position HAP for future growth and expansion. This is an exciting time for HAP."
The company plans to start moving workers to the Troy space towards the end of 2018, and hopes to have all workers and contractors moved to the new building by early 2019. The building, currently in use as the United Shore Financial Center, is still listed on Loopnet for lease at $18.28 per square foot a year.
