High Winds Knock Out Power to Troy Residents

More than 200 residences are without power Monday afternoon as a wind advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m.

A high wind advisory remains in effect for Troy and surrounding areas Monday afternoon as sustained southwest winds between 25-35 m.p.h. are expected to continue, gusting up to 50 m.p.h. at times.

The high winds have disrupted power to several areas in Troy so far, including 189 residences in the neighborhood southeast of Livernois Road and South Boulevard. Several smaller pockets of 10-20 residents are also without power across Troy Monday afternoon.

The wind advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac. Downed tree limbs are expected, and loose objects like trash cans will be blown around.

Winds this strong can also make driving difficult, cautions the weather service, especially for higher profile vehicles. Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution on the roads.
