To Improve Critically Low Supply, Troy Will Host Blood Drive

With blood supplies "critically low," the city is hosting blood drives in early March and late April.

TROY, MI – tThe City of Troy announced two two Red Cross Blood Drives this week, saying in a statement that blood supplies in the area are “critically low.” To combat this problem, Troy will host blood drives Thursday, March 1 and Wednesday, April 25 from 9 a.m. until 8:45 p.m. at the Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois.

“The blood needs of our community can only be met by support from volunteer blood donors,” City of Troy Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart said. “Donations are critical for burn victims, open-heart surgeries, some chemotherapy and leukemia patients, and disaster relief. One donation can help save the lives of up to three people.”

If you’d like to donate, you can schedule an appointment through the Community Affairs office at City Hall by calling (313) 300-9617 or (248) 524-1147. People may also sign up to donate at www.redcrossblood.org. The access code for the site is troy. Walk-ins are also welcome, but require photo ID or a Red Cross Donor Card. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh more than 110 pounds, and be in good general health.
