Large Stretch Of I-75 Closing Friday In Oakland County

A large section of Interstate 75 will shut down this weekend in Oakland County with additional long-term lane closures, officials said.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Both directions of Interstate 75 between Interstate 696 and Square Lake Road will close Friday night at 9 p.m, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Construction crews will begin closing ramps on the freeway at 7 p.m. All ramps to northbound Interstate 75 will be closed from Interstate 696 to 14 Mile Road. All ramps to southbound Interstate 75 will be closed from Michigan 59 to 11 Mile Road, officials said.

During the closure, northbound Interstate 75 traffic will be detoured west on Interstate 696 to northbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound Square Lake Road back to northbound Interstate 75, officials said.

Entrance ramps to northbound Interstate 75 will remain open from 14 Mile Road to Crooks Road/Corporate Drive for local traffic.

Southbound Interstate 75 traffic will be detoured onto westbound Square Lake Road to southbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound Interstate 696 back to southbound Interstate 75, officials said.

Crews will reopen one lane of southbound Interstate 75 by 10 a.m. Sunday and the northbound lanes will return to its current alignment with two lanes open in each direction at 5 a.m. Monday, officials said.

The southbound Interstate 75 ramp to Interstate 696 will also be reduced to just one lane until late February 2023 starting 5 a.m. Monday. But officials said drivers will still have access to eastbound and westbound Interstate 696.

Crews plan to open three lanes of Interstate 75 in both directions between Eight Mile Road and Michigan 59 and reopen the ramps from Interstate 696 to northbound Interstate 75.
