This Metro Detroit MJR Is Getting New IMAX With Comfy Recliners

A popular Oakland County movie theater is getting a massive upgrade this summer.

TROY, MI — A popular Oakland County movie theater is getting a massive upgrade this summer.

MJR Theatres announced that Troy Cinema will get an IMAX screen along with a completely redesigned auditorium.

The new auditorium, Theater 8, will feature 300 seats with luxury reclining chairs and 4K Laser projection. There will also be "VIP" seats, which will offer heated reclining chairs, side tables, storage compartments, coat hooks and a privacy enclosure.

The new IMAX screen will use a 4K laser projection system that delivers brighter images with increased resolution, deeper contrast and the widest range of colors exclusively to IMAX screens. It will also use an immersive precision audio system.

"We're thrilled to bring this next-level IMAX experience to our guests at MJR Troy," MJR VP of Operations Joel Kincaid said in a statement. "Combining the cutting-edge visuals and sound of IMAX'S 4K Laser technology with our signature zero-gravity recliners, VIP Privacy Pods and LUX Loungers, this will undoubtedly be the golden standard for moviegoing in Metro-Detroit."

This is MJR Theatres' second IMAX auditorium, followed by the MJR Southgate Cinema, which opened its auditorium in November 2023.
