Nature Center Hosts Birding Breakfast Saturday

Enjoy continental breakfast while learning about local birds.

Troy’s Stage Nature Center is hosting a birding breakfast Saturday, Feb. 17. According to the center’s announcement, β€œmid-winter” is β€œa great time to dust off your binoculars and dig out the field guides.” Snow does make it easier to see birds, and the event will feature coffee and pastries to keep things warm on the inside. Visitors will watch birds at the nature center’s wildlife feeders and talk about β€œfeathered topics” including backyard feeders and migration.

After treats and talk, the group will move outside to look for winter birds like woodpeckers, nuthatches and finches. This event will also help birders develop their bird ID skills, and is part of the Great Backyard Bird Count, β€œa global citizen-science event.” The center welcomes both new and experienced birders, and will have binoculars and field guides available for use. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by a registered adult. The event is $7 for Stage Nature Center members and $5 for nonmembers.

The birding breakfast takes place Saturday, Feb. 17 from 8 a.m. til 9:30 a.m. at the Stage Nature Center, 6685 Coolidge Hwy, Troy, MI 48098. To register for events, visit http://troynaturesociety.org/.
